The crowds came out in force to celebrate the arrival of Santa at The Mall Marlands at the weekend. After touring the city Father Christmas arrived in style by Victorian stagecoach drawn by four spectacular horses. He was joined at the main Above Bar entrance by his elves, the Mall Monster and Mall staff, some dressed for the live nativity scene – complete with real donkey!! and some in Victorian attire. The procession into the centre with Santa leading his donkey created huge amounts of interest with customers clearly delighted by it all. Festive music courtesy of the 0riginal 106fm roadshow set the mood for the occasion and mince pies and Christmas chocolates were handed out to onlookers.Santa was available throughout the day to meet his young visitors and to hear their Christmas wishes, for a small fee they had a private sitting and received a gift, and everyone had the opportunity to have their photo taken with him. Grateful thanks go to Poundland, one of the Mall’s retailers, for their support of the Santa grotto. The Live Nativity scene attracted lots of interest with a family of donkeys behaving themselves beautifully around the stable and crib with Mary, Joseph, three wise men and shepherds all aka the Mall management staff. All monies raised from the Santa day are to be donated to the Mall’s charity partners MacMillan Cancer Care and Naomi House Hospice. Paul Morgan of MacMillan Cancer Care attended in support of the event and to receive a cheque from Santa and the management team. The Mall’s Christmas decorations are second to none in the city and are worthy in their own right of a trip into the town - they have added to last years decorations to include the new Above Bar entrance which is now spectacularly lit up as well as enhancing the ground floor decorations along the main mall.Jackie Beazley, marketing manager of The Mall Marlands said ‘The spirit of Christmas is now well and truly alive in Southampton. There was a great atmosphere here on Sunday and customers and staff all seemed to have a good time taking part in the festive fun!.’The Mall have recently launched their Spend Me Card – a prepaid gift card which can be redeemed in any store within the Mall. Available to purchase from the Ask Me Point Desk (outside the Disney Store on the ground floor) the Spend Me Card would make a great Christmas gift and comes with a choice of both seasonal and generic packaging which stands out against other gift cards! The Mall Marlands would like to wish all their customers – past, present and new! – as well as all our retailers and their staff a joyous Christmas and happy and prosperous New Year.
