Local schools, community centres and a mobile larder are among the thirteen organisations awarded Community Grants from Hampshire County Council following the latest round of applications.
Over £197,000 has been awarded to projects that will support vulnerable households with food, utilities and other essentials, through the County Council’s connect4communities programme.
Councillor Roz Chadd, Hampshire County Council’s Executive Lead Member for Children’s Services, said: “Now more than ever, families are feeling the pinch with the rising cost of living. These projects will bring welcome relief to families in need of support with basic essentials like food and energy. I am pleased that we are able to support these initiatives, which represent a real lifeline for struggling families, and I urge other organisations to consider applying for Community Grant funding.”
The connect4communities programme is run by the County Council, working with partners, including voluntary and charity groups, to coordinate a range of measures that support families facing hardship. Funding is provided to local authorities by the Department for Work and Pensions from its Household Support Fund.
The latest grant recipients include:
Schools assisting with food and utility costs, clothing and other basic essentials.
Charities providing food, utility vouchers, warm clothing, bedding and hygiene products.
Additional funding for Community Centres providing toiletries and discretionary funding for white goods.
Additional funding for the ‘Safe and Well’ home visits programme - a Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire & Safety Service initiative to help vulnerable householders heat their homes safely and efficiently.
Mobile larders serving remote communities across the New Forest.
Vouchers for Citizen’s Advice to support households at risk of food or fuel poverty.
These join several other initiatives which have received Community Grant totalling £1.75m.
The deadline to submit an application for a Community Grant is 21 March 2022.
