Guildhall Winchester scores football legend Michael Owen who heads exciting line-up for 2019

He is the ex-footballer who scored 40 England goals and lit-up the Premier League and La Liga with his electrifying pace and sensational shooting.

But now former Liverpool and Real Madrid striker Michael Owen will be entertaining indoor audience at Guildhall Winchester as part of a special charity function on December 13.

He is perhaps most famous for scoring a magical solo goal for England in the 1998 World Cup last 16 against Argentina when he was just 18, and he went on to score more than 150 goals for Liverpool, Real Madrid, Newcastle, Manchester United and Stoke City before retiring in 2013.

In 2001 his talent saw him being awarded the Ballon d’Or in 2001, which is a special accolade given to the best footballer in Europe.

Ticket holders get the opportunity to have dinner with the 39-year-old former England goalscorer and have the opportunity to ask him questions about his career.

It is one of many exciting events coming up at Guildhall Winchester over the next six months.

In July, Guildhall Winchester will welcome famous author Joanna Trollope OBE, who will speak about her writing, the event is in aid of local charity Winchester GoLD which supports people with learning disabilities in Winchester and the surrounding district.

On October 3 and 4, comedian Ed Byrne who regularly appears on BBC shows like Live at The Apollo, Mock The Week and QI will be bringing his ‘If I’m Honest show’ to Guildhall Winchester.

Adding to the list of well known names will be BBC Radio Two presenter Jo Whiley who will bring back the best tracks of the 90s in a special DJ set on November 8.

The exciting line-up comes after Guildhall Winchester had two sold-out shows recently for former Spandau Ballet band member Martin Kemp, and in 2018 welcomed names like Mary Berry, Craig Charles and Bruce Foxton from The Jam.

Guildhall general manager Chris Smith, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to have such an exciting roster of events for the second half of 2019, with more still to be announced. It will help top off a fantastic year of events for us, and shows how far this venue has come over the last five years.

"We are working hard to improve and attract even more talent in the years to come.”
